Chaitanya Raj Singh Bhati, the Maharawal of Jaisalmer, is the 44th descendant of Rawal Jaisal, who founded the kingdom of Jaisalmer in 1156 AD, and the 159th lineal descendant of Lord Shri Krishna. Educated at Sanskriti School, New Delhi, and later at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where he studied Politics, he developed a deep awareness of global challenges and the pivotal role of youth in shaping the future.

Rooted in the traditions of his hometown of Jaisalmer, a city at the heart of the Thar Desert and a historic hub of cultural exchange along the Silk Route, Maharawal Chaitanya draws inspiration from its enduring legacy of art, music, and craftsmanship. He carries forward his family’s centuries-long role as patrons of culture, heritage, and community.

An ardent environmentalist, he is passionate about sustainable development and the legal and social frameworks that enable emerging industries such as hemp. He is the Founder of Everest Eco Hemp Pvt. Ltd., a conscious agro-startup, and serves as Director of Polstrat Communications Pvt. Ltd., a public affairs firm, and of Citta Education Foundation India, a Section 8 non-profit dedicated to education. He is also Chairman of the Girdhar Smark Dharmath Nyas Trust, which oversees the Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum.

Maharawal Chaitanya is actively engaged in projects spanning agriculture, water conservation, education, and heritage restoration. Beyond these initiatives, he is committed to preserving Jaisalmer’s vibrant folk traditions, collaborating with the Anahad Foundation to digitize and archive the music of the Manganiyar and other tribal communities, ensuring their survival for future generations.

The Raj Tilak ceremony, in which he was anointed Maharawal, symbolizes not only his lineage but also his responsibility as custodian of the culture, heritage, and welfare of the people of Jaisalmer. Through his leadership, he continues to bridge the past and the future, honoring tradition while advancing sustainable progress.
