Mr. Stephen J. McCarthy

Stephen J. McCarthy is the Managing Director of KCG Capital Advisors, a family investment office/foundation administration venture that he co-founded with his late father, John M. “Jack” McCarthy, a former Co-Managing Partner/CIO of Lord Abbett ($149 billion AUM partnership established in 1929). Mr. McCarthy has over forty years of diversified professional experience in both the financial services and foundation management sectors. Before establishing the family run entity in the mid 1990’s, for almost a twenty-year period, he held senior executive positions in the strategic planning, credit/risk management, business consulting, capital markets and retail brokerage arenas at PaineWebber, Security Pacific, Deloitte, Citibank and Bache respectively.
During the past twenty years in the wealth management arena, Stephen has appeared on CNBC’s “High Net Worth” program with Tyler Mathisen and “Bloomberg Business” with Tom Keane, presented at multiple investment conferences for Campden/IPI, FOA, Institutional Investor, IIR/Lido Consulting among others, has written for Trust and Estates magazine and has been quoted frequently in Barron’s, Investment News, Spectrem and Family Wealth Report. Simultaneously, during two decades in the philanthropic/social impact field, Mr. McCarthy has been a planning team member/panelist at the COF Family Foundation Conferences, an organizer/presenter at the Association of Small Foundation (ASF) events, an advisor to the National Center for Family Philanthropy (NCFP), a group discussion leader/board member of Philanthropy New York (PNY) and an award winning mentor/coach/semifinal judge at the annual $300K NYU/Stern Business Plan Competition, where he specializes in the social entrepreneurship track.
An honors graduate of Chaminade HS, Stephen received a Bachelor of Arts in dual majors - Economics and Government - from Wesleyan University, was granted a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and completed an EE Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship/ Venture Capital Investing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Mr. McCarthy is trustee of his family’s 30-year-old private foundation, represented his clan as a long-time member of the Institute for Private Investors (IPI), is a founding member/original trustee of The Greenwich Roundtable (GR) and a cofounder of The Gotham Triangle (TGT). In addition, he is President of Shaking The Tree (STT) Interactive Productions (www.shakingthetree.org) and a Partner/Executive Producer with Matthew Miele’s Quixotic Endeavors (QE) film production company featuring corporate/individual biopics such as “Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s”, “Crazy About Tiffany’s”, “Harry Benson: Shoot First”
